10 Random Songs Readers Should Be Addicted To

Hello to all who ended up on this page of mine!

Okay, so, as readers, we love a great story. The imagination, the movie we picture in our heads, etc. I've noticed throughout my life that people know the lyrics to songs, but barely get the message or the story. This spans from country to jazz to rock to rap to anything. So hopefully I can change that up a little.

So here are some songs that tell a good story from all around different genres. You may know some, and then there will be some where you may be like, who the hell do you listen to and where do you find all this? Well. Everybody and everything. And I tend to get lost in the internet A LOT. (P.S. This list is based upon the lyrics, but I'll be posting about music videos that tell the best stories soon!)

Here's your music lyric history lesson for today:

1. "Me & Bobby McGee" by Janis Joplin

Ah, the 60's. All I ever think of is hippies and Woodstock and feeling freedom to be yourself for the first time, not needing to fit into society's cookie cutter demands from the 1950s back. Janis here is traveling across country on train, by hitchhiking, etc., meeting a very enigmatic guy named Bobby McGee. Her voice makes you long for him as well, feeling the loss and memories in every word.

2. "I'm Going Down" by Rose Royce

Y'all may have most likely heard this song before, but by another artist. So many people have covered this song, including Mary J. Blige, who retitled it "I'm Goin' Down." This song is an anthem for the brokenhearted. Its powerful lyrics and the soul behind the music is too amazing to pass up.

3. "Lost Boy" by Ruth B.

"Lost Boy"'s lyrics make me think of a difficult time in life that you just beg to go back to be a kid again to get over it. Or a lonely childhood. You know, either one. Her beautiful voice will make it feel like she's retelling J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan.

4. "Beautiful Liar" by Beyonce & Shakira

This one is from the early 2000s. Yes, I guess that was forever ago, but this song was a great duet between these queens of music. It's about them dating the same guy, but didn't fight over the stupid guy. (Writers: It's a great song for those who want to be able to write about both girls' sides accurately.)

5. "Ugly Boy" by Die Antwoord

If you know anything about me, it's that I will make you listen to this South African rap/rave band (who nobody knows whether it's a prank or what). This song is along the lines of loving a guy who's not cute, but he's a great guy. Try it out and judge for yourself whether I got a hit or miss on this one.

6. "Him & I" by Halsey & G Eazy

The first time I heard these lyrics, they right away reminded me of the Joker & Harley. Anywho, the story of two people who love the crazy ways of each other? Classic old-school manic pixie dream girl kinda song that I can listen to all day.

7. "You've Really Got A Hold On Me" by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles

We've all been here. "I don't like you, but I love you." That love that was just too frustrating, but you still love their sorry butts? This song is a perfect embodiment of that feeling. There are remakes, but listen to the original Motown first.

8. "Confessions II" by Usher

Oh, how Usher broke my heart with this one. That sultry voice telling his girl he's been seeing another chick? Damnit, Usher, we never wanted you to be a cheater! Anyways, this kinda became an instant classic when it hit the charts. Listen to this (still) gorgeous man, and try not to cry.

9. "Fancy" by Reba McEntire

Ever think that there are country songs about being a prostitute in the old south? No? This Reba hit in the 90's is one of my favorite songs, and my mom let me sing it at probably age 6. Yes, "Fancy" is her name.

10. "Bed of Roses" by Bon Jovi

So another cheating song, but the freaking chorus has its own kind of beauty about it. Bon Jovi/classic rock fans have probably heard this before, but if you're a virgin to this song, please go listen to it.

So there ya go! 10 songs us readers (and writers) should be listening to all the freaking time. Have ideas for this list? Share them with the group over on facebook!

"Stalking Jack the Ripper" (a serial-killer of a review by Lexi!)

Hello Amazing Readers,

Here I go again! I've missed blogging so very much. I have a new blog in the works, but seeing the fact that I got new followers on facebook from my last (so-basic) post, I figured starting over is so much harder than just reworking and remodeling this one, especially since I really love all the readers, followers, fan encounters, author convos/encounters, etc. we've had! I'm so grateful to you all, and I hope you guys stick with me through all of this from reviews to random posts to a lot of new content and post layout!

Okay, so today's all about the badassness of the book "Stalking Jack the Ripper" by Kerri Maniscalco.

Now, I've always had this weird fascination with the Jack of Knives (a.k.a. Jack the Ripper). Ever since I first read about it as a kid (I was already reading books for teens/adults, usually on mysterious stuff by, at most, age 6). Plus, this year, scientists have declared the case finally solved, and it only took 131 years! (That they kept on trying all ways to solve it is just true dedication and justice, imho.)

Okay, book time, lol.

Summary: "Seventeen-year-old Audrey Rose Wadsworth was born a lord's daughter, with a life of wealth and privilege stretched out before her. But between the social teas and silk dress fittings, she leads a forbidden secret life.
Against her stern father's wishes and society's expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle's laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine. When her work on a string of savagely killed corpses drags Audrey into the investigation of a serial murderer, her search for answers brings her close to her own sheltered world." (Thank you, Goodreads!)

Review: So I was hoping that this girl wasn't a) a manicpixiedreamgirl or a Mary Sue, or the new typical nerd/outcast. And she wasn't! This story is written so very well, from the imagery, the words used, just absolutely everything. I have to tip my glitter lipgloss to this chick. The story was also just a great-paced read. The very end is building even more tension, so it gets a little slow, but I loved the characters and story so much, I kept with it. I have no patience with books that get slow, but this book was just way too good to put down!
Audrey is a new kind of heroine. She doesn't fit in her place in society. She loves solving mysteries, helping her uncle dissect cadavers, and more. She's determined, sneaky, and doesn't let men rule her life more than she absolutely has to. It's just so great. I don't want to reveal anything else at all because this book should remain a complete mystery for y'all.
Best part of the book is that I couldn't predict the ending. I grew up incessantly reading (completely and utterly a true story), so predicting endings and what'll happen next is just something I automatically do. This is the first book with a mystery I didn't solve by mid-book. This is just a brilliant, thrilling novel!

Recommendation: Go read it! NOW! Like, RIGHT NOW! Read this if you like a great heroine and a fresh outlook and writing style. Wait till it's dark and/or pouring outside, especially if you like reading creepy/dark subject matter books like I do!

Rating: 7/7 places Jack the Ripper terrorized

A Scheduled Post With Fun Stuff Inside... (A Tentacle-y Post By Lexi)

To All My Lovely Readers, Both New & Old,

Okay, so, as you may have noticed, I, Alexis, am the sole reviewer on this site now, the sole writer, and the one doing all of the social media and stuff (but that's always been the case). Yes, this bitch is indeed back! 😊

I’m going to catch you up on my reading list as I also let you in on brand new, and maybe soon-to-be-published books! I’m also going to be adding more fun posts in the weeks, and add reviews in them instead of just the norm. I’m going to be including polls and things to share on social media with your fellow readers!

Now having said that, I'd love some more feedback, from emails and comments and subscribing to interacting and questions and everything, as you readers are dear to my heart. Once contacted, know I'll get back to you within about a week max, though I’m thinking it'll be more like 3 days.

The schedule is different now. I'll be posting 2-3 times a week, tentatively on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.

Okay, so now that I've somewhat explained what is happening and will happen, here are...

10 Stupid Things You Can Buy On Amazon.com!

Tentacles for your fingers.
It says they're to tickle people, but it's too hentai to me.

A chocolate nativity set.
So you can devour Jesus as a newborn. Cuz that's not weird and messed up at all.

Fake abs (that are even advertised for Christmas).
These are specifically advertised for Christmas. Instant abs for your uncle.
Yep. I just typed that.

A sequin Nicholas Cage pillow.
I don't need a pillow constantly yelling "Moisturize me!!!"
(Doctor Who reference right there...)

Booty spray.
No. Just freaking no. Nasty.

Fake elephant nose.
This just looks wrong to me.

This thing.
Kid: "Mom, is this a straightjacket?"
Mom, reading peacefully: "Oh no, honey. Not at all!"
Kid: "Then what's this lock for?"
Mom: "Shhhhh..."

Hand finger puppets.
I would spend an entire day learning how to clap with just one hand... of hands.

Poo slippers.
So you can always be stepping in shit.
And in the middle/center of shit.
And shit will always follow
you.
See what I did there?

Giant Lobster Claws.
For when you need to give your mom yet another reason
to get you tested.

Okay. So there you go! Because you truly needed this list in your life, lol.

Have a great week! I'll be posting, so please come back and see me!

Loving it all,
Lexi
